TIPO provides electronic certificates for patent and trademark applications from January 1, 2023

As part of the effort to transition to a paperless society, TIPO will provide the option for patent and trademark applicants to receive the certificates in electronic or paper form, stating January 1, 2023. The change is not mandatory, and the applicant may choose to receive either form at the time of paying the issue or registration fee. In case the proprietor needs the paper copy to showcase its right, those who opt to obtain electronic copy of certificate at the time of paying the issue/registration fee may request for paper copy of the certificate with an additional fee, but not vice versa.

The electronic certificate will be issued in PDF format with digital signature. It will contain a QR code which any party can use to verify the authenticity of the certificate via TIPO’s website and check on the latest status of a patent or trademark registration.
